Honoring Hudson, Our Beloved Cat Mascot

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our dear Hudson, the beloved mascot of Second Chance Cats. Hudson was not just a cat; he was a friend, a greeter, and the sweet spirit of our shelter.

Hudson made everyone feel at home, from his soothing purrs to warm welcomes in the entryway. Despite his challenges with diabetes and heart disease, he lived his life with joy and an insatiable appetite for treats. His charm and mischievous nature won him many admirers and an eternal place in our hearts.

Hudson’s Story

Hudson’s journey with us began when he returned from an adoption due to health issues that were initially overlooked. When he arrived back, he was in dire shape—greasy, thin, and severely undernourished. Immediate medical attention revealed his diabetes, which we managed with insulin and vigilant care, including regular blood sugar checks. Eventually, we discovered he could be handled on a special wet food diet alone, and his insulin was discontinued.

Throughout his time with us, Hudson faced numerous health challenges, including dental issues that led to the removal of all his teeth, intestinal swelling indicative of IBD, and a diagnosis of FIV, which affects his immune system. Most recently, he was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, requiring ongoing heart medication.

Despite these hurdles, Hudson’s spirit never waned. His mischievous nature, love for life, and role as our mascot made him a volunteer favorite and a symbol of resilience. His unique quirks endeared him to all, like his silent meow and playful swats.
